Lilu Prints is an online shop of personalized printable posters: birth posters with a baby's name and birth details, and moon phase prints for the dates that matter to you. You fill in a short form, see a free preview and download print-ready files. We sell files, not printed posters, so you print and frame them where you like.
What we make
Personalized posters you print yourself. The birth poster comes in two families: illustrated designs, and designs with the moon as it was on the day your baby was born. For other dates, such as an anniversary, a wedding, a birthday, the night you met or in memory of someone, there is the moon phase print. Each poster is $19, and every order includes all seven sizes as PDF, PNG and SVG.
Why we sell vector print files
A file lets you choose the paper, the printer and the frame, print the same poster again in another size, and have it the same day. Ours are vector: the lettering and the drawings are shapes, not pixels, so the PDF stays sharp from 8 × 10″ to 50 × 70 cm and prints at exactly the size on its label. We don't print or ship posters ourselves.
How the designs are made
Each design is a fixed layout with a place for the name, the date and each birth detail. There is no editor and nothing to arrange: you give the words, the layout sets them. The illustrations are simple vector drawings and the lettering comes from openly licensed typefaces. Every design is checked automatically in all seven sizes, with the longest name the form accepts, and fails if any text comes out too small or too faint, overlaps something or runs off the page.
How the moon is worked out
On a moon design, the moon is the one that was in the sky on the date of the poster. Its phase is calculated for the date, the time and the time zone you give (noon, if you don't know the time) with the open-source Astronomy Engine library, whose phase times we check against the US Naval Observatory's. It is calculated once, when you order, and stored with the order, so the poster never changes afterwards. The phase name follows the almanac rule: on a day with a full moon, the poster says full moon.
In English and in Spanish
The site is in English, with prices in US dollars and US frame sizes first, and in Spanish for Spain, with prices in euros and A sizes first. A birth poster can be printed in either language, whichever one you shop in.
